Reading Buddies
Brimrod Reading Buddies is a wonderful weekly initiative that brings together children from Year 1 to Year 6 to share their love of reading in a fun and supportive way. Once a week at lunchtime, children meet in pairs to enjoy books together, helping to build confidence, improve reading skills, and develop a real enjoyment of reading.
Each pair usually includes an older and a younger child, giving the older pupils the chance to be positive role models while the younger children benefit from extra support and encouragement. Buddies take turns reading to each other, talking about the stories, and sharing their favourite books.
This helps to strengthen friendships across year groups, boosts self-esteem, and fosters a strong reading culture across the school. It’s a great opportunity for pupils to practise their reading in a relaxed and enjoyable setting while learning to listen, help others, and celebrate books together.
